What Can A DJ Teach Me About Selling Online?

A world famous DJ uses the same marketing techniques to sell a product as most online network marketeers do, but what's different? For starters, he has an actual project of quality. It's not a recycled eBook slightly modified from a previous version filled with hype and circle talk. His web presentation is on point and aesthetically pleasing. My suggestion is, if you don't have anything in particular of your own to sell that's as personal as Danny Rampling's eBook, localize your area of expertise. Offer a service based on what you know best. You may think, since so much information is readily available, 'why would anyone pay me for it?'. It's simple, people will always pay for the service of you doing all the work. Gathering useful information and redistributing it in a very concise, clear cut graspable way. (Cliff Notes will never cease being relevant, will they?) It's really not that hard. Take the time to figure out what you're most comfortable with offering and have the most passion for. Start organizing and make it happen. If you need help, shake the Money Tree.

Success Magazine is a great publication dedicated to giving its readers a myriad of beneficial tools towards being successful in business and personal life. A few months ago I picked up a copy of the print version, it came with a bonus audio cd containing a number of informative interviews and a special excerpt from a seminar conducted by Jim Rohn (America's Foremost Business Philosopher), over 25 years ago. Interview With A Skelliewag

Scouring the net for great information to deliver to our subscribers, we recently stumbled upon Skelliewag.org as seen in an earlier post we mentioned how great of a site it was and posted a link to a pretty informative article posted there. So we thought, wouldn't it be better even to contact the author and request an interview. We did and sure enough Skellie was happy to take some time and toss us a few answers to our questions all the way from Australia.

So who exactly is Skellie and what propelled Skell's to create a site like Skelliwag.org ?

I'm an Australian blogger who has always been fascinated by creating and promoting web content. I've been doing it for about nine years now. Generally I would start projects and lose interest once they started to become successful. I eventually realized that it was the process of starting and growing these blogs and websites that fascinated me more than the topics I was writing about. So I decided to start a blog about that!

How do you stay motivated, continually providing the pretty in depth content you make available to subscribers.

In the last few months my posting has slowed right down as I devote more time and energy to some other opportunities that have arisen, but I'd say that's due to shifting priorities rather than a lack of motivation. Over the last year I've become much more interested in online business and that's what's taking up a lot of my time at the moment. But even though Skelliewag doesn't generate any income at the moment, I know I will always pick it up again because I can't imagine not writing about those topics. It's very rewarding for me.

What would you say the initial process for starting a new blog for a novice should entail? What are a few essential things a would be professional blogger needs to be aware of?

A few dot-points:

Define your target audience before you start. Who are you writing for, exactly, and what do they want?

Work out exactly what you want to get out of blogging. If you want to give talks on personal development your content is going to be very different than if you want to get work as a video game reviewer.

Your posts should take at least an hour to create if they're over 500 words, at least half an hour if they're over 250. If not, your content isn't going to be valuable enough.

Make friends on StumbleUpon and send a few of them your best posts. This is a good way to draw some traffic into your blog initially. Forums and guest-posting are also great for this. Commenting on other blogs is not enough on its own.

When you're not maintaining your web estates online, what is ol' Skell's getting into off line?

I'm a university student so quite a bit of time goes into my studies. The rest of the time I try to spend with other people, either with my family or with friends. That's essential if you work at home and I think it's also important to my happiness.

Where do you see this ever changing web taking us eager net-farming cultivators of digital croppage in the year 2010?

It's kind of hard to say. I do wonder if there'll be some kind of backlash against content that is optimized for social media. Instead of 'Top 10 Ways to Skin a Cat' type posts being popular, I'm wondering if we'll see the ascendancy of some new kind of content that I can't really imagine yet!

Adbrite.com over the years has become a viable source of income generation for many website owners and blogs alike with their textual ads and interstitials. Not long ago did they also delve into the realm of video, attempting to tap into the flourishing viral market by allowing users to place their own logos in videos simultaneously making it possible for ads to be displayed with their unique content in the video flash players. Now, Adbrite has taken it up yet another notch in a quest to corner every possible avenue for advertising online. Simply, they suggest that you replace that universal (img) tag we all know in HTML, (used to display images), with their code that actually turns your visuals into ads. The new service is called Britepic. The idea is that since images still are one of the most highly sought after items online, why not embed ads into your images earning money. How successful this new implementation will be only time will tell. We’ll just need to give it a test run for ourselves.

In the long run it works out much better to have some actual human input for certain things online.

Cha Cha also is a way for people that are looking for work that can be done at home. Online there are countless ads about telecommuting jobs and data entry positions that never pan out because they are scams. Cha Cha just happens to be a legitimate way to make a bit of income doing something you'd normally be doing for free to begin with. With reviews in Wired, CNET, ABC News and a number of reputable sources, Cha Cha looks to be a good deal.

I'm usually a skeptic about turnkey drop ship Web store opportunities. The ones I've seen in the past have either charged a high monthly maintenance fee, or sold shoddy merchandise. T-Shirts quite simply will never go out of style. All over the net there are countless websites popping up taking advantage of this net niche market that has expanded from generic smiley faces and "I'm With Stupid" shirts to even more sophisticated make your own spam mail shirts. The fact is, almost anywhere you go on the planet, there's a person wearing a t-shirt with either a witless quote or an interesting graphic.

So you wanna make shirts huh, but you don't have the resources? Or you just can't figure out what would sell if you did have them. Honestly, t-shirt production is not that expensive and the profit return on your investment can be sweet provided you manage to sell your product. You have 2 main ways to get images on shirts. You can go the silkscreen route or the heat transfer route. Silk screen is real simple and less costly then heat transfer depending on the amount of colors involved in your project. The more colors the more it will cost you. If you find a good company like N Designs in the heart of Tennessee you'll do fairly well on production cost and they even do small orders, although they mostly service large companies and record labels with printed garments.

But what if you don't want silkscreened shirts? What if you're more interested in full color images like those portraits of Tupace & Biggie that never seem to run outtah steam. Now you're talking heat transfer and you're also talking more money. There's one way I've personally used to get my full color images on shirts and thousands of independent t-shirt creators have followed this trend. Cafepress.com has made it possible for folks to create not only t-shirts but various items to customize and even sell online in their very own net store. Only drawback is the amount of profit you end up with after your merchandise is sold. The base prices are rather high and you'd have to raise your sell price a bit much to get a few dollars off of your items. If you think in volume though, selling more at lower prices you'll make some money. Considering the fact that Cafe Press produces the product for you, completes the transaction and delivers it to your customer while you sit back and do nothing but promote your store, kinda makes what they're asking for as a base for each item not so terrible. Nevermind, the basic account with Cafe Press is free. (With a free account you can only create one of each customizable item.)

Okay now you have some what of an idea of where you can get shirts produced. (Get to searching the net for more info on companies that produce garments. Pay attention to the types of shirts they use to print on. You want to sell a quality product.) Now what do you put on them ? Depends on what you want to represent. Or if you're trynah toss a gimmick out there to make a quick buck. Either way you'll need to do what anyone that's trying to sell anything does. Research your market. Find out what's popular and what sells. Just think about what you would want a shirt to say. What haven't you seen on a shirt that you know people would be amazed to see. Come up a with a concept or 2 and run with'em. You won't know if it will be a big sell unless you actually try.

In the last year or so I’ve become considerably involved with blogging. I’ve realized the potential for many things through this form of communication. If promoted properly, you can reach a massive amount of folks from all over the globe, many of which you’d otherwise never ever possibly meet. You’d be surprise how many people actually feel the same way you do about things or have similar interest in topics you surely didn’t expect anyone else to be interested in. Regardless of what you’re into, the networking capabilities online and through the use of blogs are amazing.

So what do you blog about? Well, just like they always say when one wants to be a writer. Write what you know. How simple is that? Sometimes it’s not so simple, but anything can be done. I suggest you not make it work for yourself. As long as you enjoy what you do, the process becomes pretty seamless as far as I’ve experienced it. Write the way you speak and be honest. Contrived prose can be easily recognized by your reader and not appreciated. You want to get your message across most importantly. Ernest Hemmingway is looked upon as one of the greatest American authors that ever touched a typewriter key. He wrote short precise sentences and every one wasn’t filled with words you’d be embarrassed not to know the definition of. Besides, it’s not always the words that you use, but more so the manner in which you use the words you choose to use. All in all, you want to get your point across with the least amount of difficulty. You want to inform your audience. The more you write, the more confident you will become with your writing. If you’re not too sure about going live with some of your pieces have a friend that will give you a serious critique check it out. If you really want to get an unbiased opinion, you may want to have them read what you wrote with the idea that it is something that you stumbled upon while surfing and you’d like to share it with them and discuss. This method is a great way to get honest feedback.

I created this blog to list various ways individuals can make a few extra coins that they otherwise would never see by quite simply taking advantage of the many valuable resources that are online.

Seems like people give the internet a seriously bad wrap. Too much pornographic material. Pop-ups. Spam. Viruses that take over your comp. But the truth is, like with everything else in life it's more so about what you actually do and how you find the good and beneficial things out there that exist. So straight off I'd like to say for anyone reading this who's nature is one of complaining and or finding the wrongs in everything with no real thought of personal advancement, go ahead and close this window. Maybe you're just fine but want to be a little bit more better off and refuse to settle with your financial situation.
